The Trans Pacific Union Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, referred to by our friends as simply the Trans Pacific Union or the TPU, is the centre for ministry resourcing for the Adventist church in the South Pacific area. It is a comparatively new Union Mission, being inaugurated by Church action (through the South Pacific Division) at the beginning of 2001.
It is staffed by a team of dedicated international people who are committed to the Union Vision and ministry.
With about 85,000 baptised members, primarily from Melanesian, Micronesian, Polynesian and Indo-Fijian, there are eleven nations making up the TPU region and there are six separate Adventist missions and an attached church caring for those nations. They are the missions of Fiji, Kiribati-Nauru, Niue Attached Church,Samoas-Tokelau, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.
The TPU is also directly responsible for a number of institutions throughout its field. It runs Atoifi Hospital in the Solomons, an entry level Ministerial Training school (HATS) also in the Solomons and its primary Tertiary Education Facility (Fulton College) located in Fiji.
The TPU offers many kinds of Ministries and is the Administrative headquarters of these missions and institutions. It is of course a part of the South Pacific Division of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, which inturn is a part of the entire World Church, headquartered at Maryland, USA.
The TPU also sets a spiritual tone through its decisions at its Executive Committee level. This committee has senior administrator representation from all its mission and senior institution levels as well as lay representation from across the TPUM territory.
